1. Introduction
A König snow chain (e.g. K-Summit K45) is an article that belongs to a model and is distinguished from another article by its size. A model contains items that are identical to each other except for the size.
To make a comparison: the snow chain product is like a t-shirt, the model indicates a t-shirt with a particular colour or cut, the size indicates the t-shirt size.
In the example of the t-shirt, with the article and its code we indicate a t-shirt, yellow in colour and size.
In the world of König snow chains, the article number indicates a product (snow chain), a model (e.g. K-Summit) and a size (e.g. K45).
Once this concept has been introduced, it is important to know that each item (K-Summit K45) is compatible with a range of tyres that can be more or less extensive.
To ensure compliance, the list of compatible tyres is printed on the packaging of the König snow chains, as well as the markings of the regulatory standards.
It sometimes happens that, after years, the packaging is lost or the label indicating compatible tyres has deteriorated.
2. How to determine the König chain size
What to do in this case?
If your packaging no longer bears the adhesive label, the first thing we need to do is to find out your chain size (the famous t-shirt size from the previous example) by checking the code on the chain itself.
Depending on the model, the chain size is stamped on the following components:
- K-Summit: the chain size is indicated by the last 3 digits of the code printed on the inside face of one of the plastic flaps.
- Easy-fit: the chain size is indicated by the last 3 digits of the code stamped on the inside of the rigid arch.
- Traditionally assembled chains manufactured in the last 30 years: the chain size is indicated by the last 3 digits of the code stamped on the front hook (S shape).
- Professional chains: the chain size is indicated by the last 3 digits of the code stamped on the tensioning lever or on the central locking hook.
This code represents the chain size (e.g. 745) which in combination with the chain model indicated on the packaging (e.g. K-Summit) gives the complete indication of the König article.
